AANS Spotlight: Neurosurgery Around the World

NeurosurgeonPromoSliderVol23no3AANS Neurosurgeon is the official socioeconomic publication of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), and features information and analysis for contemporary neurosurgical practice. It focuses on topics related to legislation, workforce issues and practice management as they affect the specialty of neurosurgery. The September 2014 edition of the AANS Neurosurgeon takes a look at how the specialty is practiced across the globe.

In everyday neurosurgical practice, it can be easy to focus on the issues in our immediate corner of the world, like hospital politics and troublesome cases. Yet, neurosurgeons in the U.S. are part of a global community, many who may be experiencing similar challenges or facing obstacles that may be simply unfathomable in other parts of the world. This issue of AANS Neurosurgeon explores the specialty from an international perspective. Some articles discuss different ways of promoting neurosurgery globally, while other pieces present what the specialty of neurosurgery looks like on a practical level in countries ranging from Switzerland to Niger.

Engage in some armchair travel: The following pieces delve into how neurosurgery is practiced both near and far.

Elsewhere in the issue, readers can check out additional theme-related articles, as well as those with practice management suggestions, book reviews, and updates from the Washington, D.C., office via its “Washington Watch” column.
