Neurosurgery and 140 Other Groups Urge Congress to Repeal the Medical Device Excise Tax

According to a new study released by the Pacific Research Institute, “The medical device tax is bad tax policy that has increased patient costs, reduced access to life-saving technology, and reduced profits and jobs,” said Dr. Wayne Winegarden, author of the Benefits from Repealing the Medical Device Tax. The study points out that repealing the tax would bring many benefits, such as increased medical innovation and better-quality care for patients.

It’s for these very reasons that more than 140 physician, patient groups, device companies and other interested stakeholders sent a letter urging Congress to repeal the medical device tax. Simply put, this tax is the exact opposite of what our health care system needs, as simultaneously reduces access to new technologies, increases health care costs for patients, and eliminates jobs.
